One of the most popular recent attractions at the London Dungeon is a new feature called Extremis: Drop Ride To Doom, which will push many pleasureseekers to the end of their tether! It’s not for those with weak constitutions. Visitors enter a holding cell and are seated in a ride which seeks to emulate the experience of the sudden drop of a hanging. The Dungeon staff take the ritual to its limit, reading out ‘charges’ against them while a noose hangs before their faces. The rapid drop that follows when a ‘hangman’ pulls a lever is sure to be remembered by all visitors for a long time to come, even though it is – like all the Dungeon’s events – strictly good-humoured. Extremis: Drop Ride To Doom is just the latest in a long line of attractions which are making the Dungeon one of Europe’s most fascinating sites to visit – and will be a feature of many visitors’ itineraries well into the future.
